The scripture readings for the service this Sunday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. celebrate God’s redemptive love. They begin with a prophecy of Christ’s entry into Jerusalem on a humble colt, bringing peace to the nations. The psalmist sings of God’s mercy, love, and compassion for all. The writer of Romans decries his own yielding to temptation while he rejoices in his salvation through Christ. The Gospel offers relief from human disagreements and contradictions with Jesus’s words to his followers: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
