Religious Life Groups

In partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, Duke Chapel convenes, supports, and advocates for all officially recognized Religious Life groups on campus that serve students.

The Religious Life team of clergy, chaplains, and administrators welcome new students during Orientation Week and offer events throughout the year, including weekly worship opportunities and special events. Religious Life groups, and the students participating in them, may apply for grants from the Chapel to support specific programming or advance the group’s mission and goals.

In addition to the Religious Life groups listed below, the Chapel sponsors three affiliate groups: the Congregation at Duke Chapel, Center for Christianity and Scholarship, and the Royal School of Church Music in America.

Alongside the Religious Life and affiliate groups, the Chapel's Student Ministries programs provide opportunities for students to hear and respond to God's call for their lives on campus, in Durham, and beyond through study, artistic expression, counsel, service, and community.

Acts2 at Duke

Mission Statement: We are an outreach initiative of the Bruderhof community. We invite students, faculty, and staff to fellowship with us, both on campus and at our community house. We have great conversations and seek together what God's will is for our lives. We cook and eat together, sing and pray together, and are always up for a game or hike. You can join with us on service projects in the neighborhood as well. Whatever we do, our goal is to experience and share Christ's love.

Agapé Campus Ministry
Mission Statement: To provide undergraduate and graduate students at Duke with a loving and encouraging space for bible study, prayer, worship, and fellowship.

Buddhist Meditation Community at Duke
Mission Statement: We are a culturally and idealogically diverse group that brings core Buddhist teachings and practices to bear on our modern lives and cultural contexts through experiential exercises and discussion. We are deeply committed to celebrating different identities and vantage points and welcome all who are curious, including beginners, experienced Buddhists, and those of other faiths or no faith equally.  
    Cooperative Baptist Student Fellowship of North Carolina
    Mission Statement: Each of the words in our name is important to our identity, but perhaps "Fellowship" hold the greatest insight into who we are as an organization. We are a fellowship of churches and individuals who voluntarily cooperate to do together what we could never accomplish one, for the Kingdom of God. We bring together people of shared interests, activities, beliefs, and experience. We provide companionship along our shared journey to be the presence of Christ in the world. We serve each other as equals.

    Mission Statement: At the end of our celebration of Holy Eucharist, we're sent into the world "to love and serve the Lord." That's our mission and it's something we can do every day, in every part of our lives. In all places, near and far, we seek to love and serve the Lord by loving and serving our neighbors.

    Mission Statement: InterVarsity ISM is a family of international students and scholars on campuses across the US gathering for friendship and to discuss faith, culture, and the things we care about most.

    Jewish Life at Duke
    Mission Statement: Empowering students to learn and grow intellectually and spiritually, to inspire and nurture personal paths to Jewish identity, and to cultivate community and friendship. 
    LDSSA: Latter-day Saint Student Association
    Mission Statement: We, the Duke LDSSA, represent a diverse body of Duke students who enjoy social, spiritual, and educational activities that serve to strengthen faith in Jesus Christ and enrich our educational experience. Though many of our members belong to The Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, not all are, nor is membership in the Latter-day Saint church required for club membership or participation. Our members come from Trinity College, Pratt Institute of Engineering, and all the graduate schools at Duke University, and have a variety of interests outside the field of religion. As a club we plan and participate in numerous social, religious, academic, and simply fun activities throughout the course of the school year.

     

    Muslim Life at Duke
    Mission Statement: At the Center for Muslim Life, students, staff, and faculty come together to create a vibrant and inclusive Muslim environment. We are committed to enriching the lives of Muslim students and the whole campus through events and activities that cater to the spiritual, social, and intellectual needs of Duke students. Whether you were born or raised Muslim, interested in or new to Islam, or know nothing at all, we are a home away from home for all who want to engage with and be a part of the Muslim community at Duke.

    Congregation at Duke Chapel
    This ecumenical congregation serves the pastoral needs of those from Duke and the Triangle area for whom Duke Chapel is the primary place of worship. Membership is open to all, including students. Watch this five-minute video for a closer look at the Congregation's life together.
    Royal School of Church Music in America
    RSCM America provides musical education to singers through choral music programs, an acclaimed choral training curriculum, and summer music training courses. It also provides support to music directors by providing access to national leaders in sacred choral music.

    Chaplains help people negotiate the big questions and challenges of being human by working with individuals or groups who are exploring their identities and purpose, navigating loss or transition, or experiencing crisis and in need of care.
