Two Minutes Together: Making Altars to God
In this #TwoMinutesTogether video, the Rev. Breana van Velzen, the Chapel’s community minister, reflects on the role of altars to God during a time when many people are having to do their spiritual practices at home.
She takes inspiration from a recent workshop she attended as well as this passage in the Book of Exodus (20:24): “You need make for me only an altar of earth and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your offerings of well-being, your sheep and your oxen; in every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you.”
“Even when you are having a rough day, light a candle and say a prayer,” Rev. Breana van Velzen says about praying at an altar. “Know that you are not alone—there are altars to God erected all over the world.”
