Members of the Duke Chapel Choir debut a "virtual choir" recording of the modern motet "Called to Ventures" by Robert Buckley Farlee in this episode of Sounds of Faith, which also features Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fugue in E-flat major.
Chapel Music Director Dr. Zebulon Highben explains how these two pieces of music connect to this time in the church year between Pentecost and Trinity Sunday—and this time in 2020 when choirs are seeking ways to make music without gathering in person.
"Right now, I miss the sounds of our corporate worship in Duke Chapel. I miss the choirs and organs filling the sanctuary with beautiful anthems. I miss the congregation’s robust voice on hymns and canticles," Highben says. "We share [the Farlee motet] with you today in the sure and certain hope that God will continue to lead us, that Jesus’ love will continue to support us, and that the Spirit will gather us again to raise our voices together in song."
