11:00 am
University Worship
Location: Duke Chapel
Bishop Peter Storey, the W. Ruth and A. Morris Williams Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the Practice of Christian Ministry, Duke Divinity School

All are welcome to attend this ecumenical service of Christian worship on Sunday mornings throughout the year. Duke Chapel is home to a long--and living--tradition of faithful preaching and inspiring sacred music. Join us as we sing, pray, give thanks, and learn together.

The guest preacher for the service is Bishop Peter Storey, the W. Ruth and A. Morris Williams Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the Practice of Christian Ministry at Duke Divinity School.  In the 1960s, Professor Storey was chaplain to Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners on Robben Island. Later, he and the then Bishop Desmond Tutu led the South African Council of Churches in the church struggle against the apartheid regime. In the 1980s, he was presiding bishop of the nation’s two million Methodists. Soon after, he became chairperson of the National Peace Accord intervening in political violence in his region and after liberation was involved in the selection of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. His memoir, titled Protest at Midnight: Ministry to a Nation Torn Apart, was published this year in the United States.

The Chapel Choir typically leads the music with accompaniment from the Chapel's organs. ADA parking is available in the Bryan Center surface lot at 125 Science Drive.  Parking notice: Please allow extra time for parking as there will be construction work on the main entrance to the Bryan Center Parking Garage from October 7 to 12, 2022. Signage and parking attendants will indicate the available entrances to the garage.

Services are livestreamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/dukechapel and broadcast live on channel 12 of the Duke Hospital TV system and on the radio on 620 AM WDNC. Sign up for the Duke Chapel Sermons podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
