Choral Evensong in Context

Copied URL to clipboard

A series of talks before each Choral Evensong service this semester will provide historical and musical context for the service, which dates back to the sixteenth century. Each service will have a historical narrative of both the liturgy and its music, intended to present a range of music from a particular period. Over the course of the semester, the series will feature over 500 years of music and liturgy from the reign of Henry VIII to Elizabeth II.

The next Evensong service on Sunday, February 12, will have music from the sixteenth-century reigns of Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I, including compositions by Robert White, Thomas Tallis, and William Byrd. The talk will be at 3:30 p.m. with the service beginning at 4:00 p.m. See service details and a link to the livestream.
