Gospel vocalist Yolanda Adams will sing in the Duke Chapel Sunday morning worship service on April 16 at 11:00 a.m. A multi-platinum recording artist with thirteen albums, Adams’ music blends modern gospel with R&B and jazz. Some of her many awards and recognitions include five GRAMMY Awards, Billboard magazine’s Gospel Artist of the Decade, performances at the White House, and induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

People attending the service are invited to arrive early to allow time for parking and being seated. There is no admission charge or ticketing. If the Chapel reaches capacity, no one else will be allowed to enter. Parking is available in the Bryan Center garage at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking is available in the Bryan Center Surface Lot at the same address. Receive a pass for free parking on Sunday mornings at the visitor desk inside the Chapel.

In this service, we will welcome Duke alumni returning to campus for Reunion Weekend. How appropriate it is that today’s scripture lessons focus on another sort of reunion among the followers of Christ. Thomas is too often portrayed as a “doubter,” but doesn’t he—as do we—simply want to see with his own eyes proof of what he’s heard? In the gospel lesson, he gets that very opportunity as he is reunited with his Lord and his God. The Rev. Bruce Puckett, assistant dean of the Chapel, will preach a sermon titled Impossible.

In addition to her work as a gospel singer and songwriter, Adams is an actress, author, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. She is the host, creator, and owner of the nationally syndicated radio program the "Yolanda Adams Morning Show." Through her radio show and her nonprofit, Adams has supported numerous organizations working to improve education, health, and the well-being of young people. In 2016, President Barack Obama presented her with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for her volunteer service.

Duke Chapel is home to a long--and living--tradition of faithful preaching and inspiring sacred music. Chapel ministers lead the service with a sermon from Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery or other minister. The Chapel Choir typically leads the music with accompaniment from the Chapel's organs.
