Organ Scholar
As the Organ Scholar at Duke Chapel, Sophia Cornicello performs on the Chapel’s four organs, assists with choir rehearsals, and receives intensive musical instruction. She is a pianist, harpsichordist, and organist whose work spans historical performance and contemporary music. A recent graduate of Bard College Conservatory’s distinguished double-degree program, she earned degrees in piano performance and mathematics while studying piano with Rieko Aizawa and harpsichord and organ with Renée Anne Louprette.
At Bard, Sophia performed with the Bard Baroque Ensemble and appeared as both a soloist and chamber musician in programs featuring the music of J. S. Bach alongside works by contemporary composers. A finalist in the 2025 Rosalyn Tureck International Bach Competition, she previously served as organist of Fair Street Reformed Church in Kingston, New York. She received a scholarship from Early Music America in 2025 and was a continuo organ fellow at the 2026 Emmanuel Bach Institute. Her recent performances include J. S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Harpsichords in C Minor with the Bard Baroque Ensemble and the U.S. premiere of Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits’s la folia for solo harpsichord.
