Students: Worship, Sing, Belong, Connect at the Chapel
Students are involved in many ways at the Chapel. See how you can participate online in the life of the Chapel:
Worship
Every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m., the Chapel holds an online worship service. You can participate via a livestream on our YouTube channel, where you can engage with our online minister as well as others who attend virtually. Students interested in serving in worship leadership roles are invited to contact the Rev. Bruce Pucket, assistant dean at the Chapel. This semester, students can apply by February 1 to be this year's Student Preacher.

Religious Life Groups
Students can deepen their faith and make friends through Religious Life groups. Duke has more than twenty Religious Life groups representing a wide range of faith traditions, including Catholic, Hindu, Latter-Day Saints, Jewish, Muslim, and a variety of Protestant denominations. See how to connect with Religious Life leaders. For questions, contact the Chapel’s director of Religious Life, the Rev. Kathryn Lester-Bacon.

Courses
This semester Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery is teaching a course through the Divinity School titled "Deep River: Howard Thurman, Spirituality, and the Prophetic Life." This seminar course examines the writings, sermons, meditations, and prayers of Howard Thurman as means to exploring the nature and content of the spiritual life in his thought. In particular, course probes how the spiritual life, as presented in Thurman’s writings, funds the prophetic life to reveal the integration of the contemplative and active life. Learn more.
Students who join the Chapel Choir can receive course credit through the music department's Chapel Choir course.
Duke Chapel Student Ambassadors
Duke Chapel Student Ambassadors is a select group of Duke undergraduate students from various academic backgrounds dedicated to inviting others into the story and sanctuary of Duke Chapel. They are trained to be Chapel Docents and commit to serving in this role for at least one year. Learn more.
Community Engagement
In responding to God’s all-inclusive love at Duke, in Durham, and in the world, the Chapel partners with various community organizations and leaders to create or participate in opportunities for students to engage in education, volunteering, and advocacy at the intersections of faith and justice. For more information on these opportunities, please check our calendar for events and/or contact our community minster.
#FindSanctuary
Amid nationwide calls for justice and the coronavirus pandemic, we are re-engaging a question for the Duke community at a time when many of the ways we usually worship, pray, and find solace are evolving: Where (or how) do you find sanctuary? We invite you to share photos (past and present) of the ways you find sanctuary in certain places, people, or practices. Join the conversation using the hashtag #FindSanctuary on social media with images, quotes, and comments about sanctuary.
Connect with Us
The Chapel welcomes mutuality and reciprocity within the whole of human society. We invite you to join us as we cross the boundaries of denominations, races, nations, generations, faiths, and academic disciplines. Fill out this form to get involved with life at the Chapel, and to connect with ministers or musicians.
Please note: The Chapel is closed to visitors and all in-person services, concerts, and other events remain canceled until further notice. We continue to pray regularly for Duke, Durham, the nation, and the world, and offer online resources for prayer and livestreams of services. We invite you to engage online with us.
