Prayers for Students during Exams

Chapel ministers are offering these prayers for students during exams.

From the Rev. Breana van Velzen, Community Minister

God whose wisdom surpasses understanding, we give thanks for the tradition of shared knowledge; and as our knowledge is shared, we ask that you guide us in tempering knowledge with wisdom, compassion, and integrity. Help us to walk faithfully in our vocations and give honor to your name. Amen.

Creator to whom we are each precious, in these anxiety-ridden times, ease our hearts. May your Holy Spirit comfort us and guide us. May we be reminded that our worth is in you, always, and that you saw us and said, “Very good.” Amen.

Even as we are faithful, oh Lord, sometimes our hearts are troubled. Grant us peace, grant us wisdom, grant us what we need as we walk in the path you have set before us. As this semester comes to a close, remind us of whose we are and who we are. Amen.

God With Us,⁣⠀
⁣⠀
This has been a semester like no other. We do not fully understand how you are guiding us. We do not truly know all the means by which you have brought us to this point. We do not always sense your presence in the late-night cramming, the early morning caffeine, the endless cycles of laughs and tears and memes and tips we share with friends. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
But we know that you have been with us. Your hand guides us. Your breath moves through us. Your voice calls our name. You reveal the path ahead, one turn at a time. Show us how to make it through the next week. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Meet all students in these moments as they prepare for finals, farewells to friends, and a long winter break. Nourish these students, your beloved children, with your wisdom. Strengthen them with your mercy. Shelter their sense of self-worth with your abiding love. Empower them to tend to their own spirits, even while in the midst of stress. Renew their minds, hearts, bodies after anxious nights and weary mornings. Recenter their minds and bodies and hearts on the revelation of your steadfast hope. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
May no one final essay or exam hold the measure of our knowledge. May no one relationship or interaction bear the extent of our compassion. May every conversation become another possibility to embody Christ’s love and light and wisdom with each other. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Fill us, God of grace. Renew us, Spirit of peace. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Remind us that we are yours, today, tomorrow, forever. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Bring us through every dark cloud and shadowed valley, so that we might greet your dawn of justice and peace.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
We pray all of these things in the name of the one who knows what it is to be human. Thanks be to God.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Amen.
