Dean Powery Offers a Poetic Prayer for Election Day

Changing up the usual format of his biweekly column, Chapel Dean Luke Powery offers a poem in today’s (Duke) Chronicle about his hopes for tomorrow's elections. He explains that his poem takes inspiration from the Irish poet Pádraig Ó Tuama—this year’s Few Lecturer on November 19—whose writing weaves together “poetry, prayer, etymology and personal testimony to point to truths about ourselves, our relationships and the mystery of God.”
“With Ó Tuama’s example in mind, this column is my own prayerful poem—or maybe poetic prayer—for embracing a civic vision of sheltering one another,” Dean Powery writes.
