Community Organizer Shane Claiborne at Duke Oct. 19-20

Shane Claiborne, one of the founders of The Simple Way Christian community in inner city Philadelphia, will preach and speak at Duke Oct. 19 and 20.

Claiborne is a community organizer and leader in the New Monasticism movement, which seeks to model monastic ways of living in poor urban communities. He is the author of many books including “The Irresistible Revolution.” He writes regularly on his blog, Twitter and Facebook.

His public appearances at Duke include:

  • 9:45 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, 0012 Westbrook in Duke Divinity School -- the Congregation at Duke Chapel’s Adult Forum
  • 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, Duke Chapel -- preaching during the Chapel’s regular worship service
  • 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 20, 0014 Westbrook in Duke Divinity School -- talk and Q&A moderated by author Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, co-sponsored and meal provided by the Divinity School’s Basin and Towel

All of the events are free and open to the public.
