The Duke Chapel Choir performs this choral setting of Howard Thurman’s famous poem during University Worship on February 2, 2020. Rev. Dr. Luke Powery, dean of Duke Chapel, reflects on Thurman’s theology of the disinherited as it is expressed in the poem. Dr. Zebulon Highben, director of Chapel Music, describes how Elizabeth Alexander musically depicts Thurman’s connection between the joy of Christmas “and the challenging work of discipleship."
