A collaboration between Duke Chapel and the Duke Jazz Program, this Jazz Vespers worship service combines the form of the traditional evening vespers service with the musical improvisation of jazz. Chapel Dean Luke Powery and others will offer prayers and readings during the service, while music professor John Brown's "Little" Big Band will provide musical leadership. Local ministers will also participate. Vespers is an ancient Christian service with chants, anthems, prayers and scripture reading. The John Brown Big Band is a professional large jazz ensemble, specializing in performances of traditional compositions from the Great American Songbook as well as contemporary arrangements. Co-sponsored by the Duke Jazz Program. All are welcome to attend. Free parking will be available for in the Bryan Center Parking Garage at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking will be in the Bryan Center Surface Lot.
