In the BET.com documentary Holler If You Hear Me, journalist Clay Cane explores homophobia in the black church. Directed and written by Cane, his film debut puts the narrative in the hands of Black LGBT people who are torn between their faith and sexuality. Through emotional and deeply honest storytelling, Holler If You Hear Me boldly tackles the intersections of race, gender, sexuality and religion. Filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, where church and LGBT culture cross paths like nowhere else in the country, Cane and BET.com unpack this controversial but important issue. Holler If You Hear Me: Black and Gay in the Church humanizes the journeys of those who struggle with faith and sexuality, proving we all deserve to be heard and loved. The film earned a 2016GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Digital Journalism. On February 24, 2016, The White House featured Clay Cane as a Black History Month speaker along with a screening of the documentary. Cane was also presented on a panel discussion, which focused on the film, faith, sexuality and the African American community.
