Handel's Messiah [Sold Out]
Location: Duke Chapel
Duke Choir Choir, Soloists, Mallarmé Chamber Players
*** Update: Tickets are now sold out for both in-person Messiah performances, but tickets are still available for the online presentation of the concert, which will be available for viewing from December 12 through 26. Purchase tickets for the online presentation of Messiah: https://tickets.duke.edu/online/article/messiah21 . *** Since 1933, Duke Chapel has welcomed the Advent season with the sublime music of Messiah. George Frideric Handel's masterwork weaves a musical and scriptural tapestry that tells the story of Christ's life, from birth through death and resurrection. This year, we perform with period instruments and Baroque-era tuning, as Handel himself would have heard it. In consideration of current public health protocols, this year's Messiah will be abbreviated to approximately ninety minutes, including the Christmas portion plus selected movements from Parts II and III. Seating capacity will be limited. The concert will not be livestreamed, but a recording of the performance will be available online December 12-26. Tickets may be purchased for the live performances, or at a discount for the broadcast-only. Masks are required on the Duke campus in all indoor locations and strongly recommended in outdoor settings with a gathering of people. This applies to all students, faculty, staff and visitors regardless of vaccination status. Because COVID vaccines are a matter of public health, we encourage all eligible people to receive one.
