Duke University Chapel Reopening Celebration

Duke University Chapel reopens with a daylong celebration. The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours, a communion service, a time of silence, and music. The day's schedule is below. General parking will be available in the Bryan Center Parking Garage (at $2/hour); ADA parking will be available directly in front of the Chapel. Find updates here: https://chapel.duke.edu/reopen.

10 a.m. — Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, followed by the Flentrop Organ welcoming first visitors

11 a.m. Aeolian Organ Demonstration, Christopher Jacobson, FRCO, Chapel Organist

11:30 a.m. — Guided Tour, Dr. Lois Oliver, Lead Docent

12 noon — Noontime Prayer with Holy Communion, the community is invited to attend and participate according
to individual conscience

1 p.m. — Flentrop Organ Demonstration, Dr. Robert Parkins, University Organist

1:30 p.m. Guided Tour, Caroline Bruzelius, Anne Murnick Cogan Professor of Art and Art History, Trinity College of Arts and Sciences

2 p.m. — The Gift of Preaching, Dean Luke A. Powery on the significance of the preaching tradition at Duke University Chapel

2 - 4:30 p.m. — Senior Students Chapel Tower Climb, in a longstanding tradition, seniors with valid Duke ID are invited to be the
first to see the view from the top of the restored Chapel. Space is limited. Online RSVP required at https://chapel.duke.edu/senior-students-chapel-tower-climb.

2:30 p.m. — Guided Tour

3 p.m. — Brombaugh Organ Demonstration, Christopher Jacobson, FRCO, Chapel Organist

3:30 p.m. — Guided Tour

4 p.m. — Traditions of Prayer, organized by Religious Life at Duke

4:30 p.m. - Guided Tour

5 p.m. — Carillon Concert, J. Samuel Hammond, Chapel Carillonneur

6 - 8 p.m. — The State of Things Visits the Chapel, join host Frank Stasio, Dean Powery and the Chapel’s choirs to record “The Sights and Sounds
of Duke University Chapel”

8:30 p.m. — Sing the Chants of the Compline Service

9 p.m. — Silent Hour with guided mindfulness meditations

10 p.m. — Prayers for Peace in Our Time, join us on the front steps as we close the doors for the day and say a prayer for peace in our time with Dean Powery and Dr. Christy Lohr Sapp, Associate Dean for Religious Life
