Alleluia! Sing a New Song
Location: Duke Chapel
Vocal Arts Ensemble of Durham
The Vocal Arts Ensemble presents the first concert in Duke Chapel since its reopening after a yearlong closure for repair and restoration. To celebrate the reopening, VAE will sing jubilant songs of praise as well as music that celebrates the joy of singing: two choral settings of the word "Alleluia" (including a recent composition by Eric Whitacre), Ivo Antognini's "Canticum Novum" (New Song), Randall Thompson's "Ye Shall Have a Song", and others. Related themes of coming home, arrival at the Promised Land, and the coming of light are also presented in music. The 31 singers of VAE are chosen from among the finest choral singers in the region, and are directed by Rodney Wynkoop. Full Program: Eric Whitacre - Alleluia Daniel Elder - The Ballade of the Moon Frank La Rocca - Expectavi Dominum Ivo Antognini - Canticum novum Stephen Caracciolo, arr. - How can I keep from singing?
