Is the Chapel handicap-accessible?
Yes, it is. The wheelchair ramp is located on the side of the Chapel closest to the Divinity School and is easily accessible from both the Bryan Center and “Chapel Circle” parking lots. It is worth noting, however, that the Chapel does not have wheelchair-accessible restrooms; instead, guests should be directed to the restrooms in the Divinity School or the lowest level of Page Auditorium.
Our event is small and takes place on the lawn. Do we still need to make a reservation?
Yes! All events, regardless of size and location, require an official reservation and approval through the Chapel. This is to ensure that your event doesn’t interfere with other events happening elsewhere in the Chapel or on the Chapel grounds or surrounding quads.
What does it mean to “sponsor” an event? We don’t need any funding.
Sponsoring an event doesn’t necessarily imply a financial commitment; instead, sponsorship simply lets the Chapel (and other University event staff) know that an event is being backed or supported by a Duke-affiliated group.
How much does it cost?
Rental fees range from $0—$1000, plus the cost of Technical Services, parking, and other services. Please contact us for details.
What is the seating capacity of the Chapel?
The Chapel’s maximum occupancy is 1,453 people.
Do you have a nursery that we can use to provide childcare during our event?
No. Due to liability issues, the Chapel nursery cannot be used for outside events. The Chapel cannot make any exceptions to this policy.
