Public Lecture with Composer James MacMillan

Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts (DITA) at Duke Divinity School will host a lecture with James MacMillan, internationally acclaimed Scottish composer and conductor. The free lecture will provide the framework and introduction to a U.S. premiere of the newly commissioned St. Luke Passion composed by MacMillan that will premiere Palm Sunday (April 13) in Duke Chapel. It also will provide insight into the collaborative composition of the work, and into MacMillan's own process as a composer. The lecture will be introduced by DITA director Jeremy Begbie and followed by a response from Prof. Sarah Coakley, established Chair at the University of Cambridge in Philosophy of Religion. Advance registration is encouraged. The lecture is part of "Sounding the Passion: Encounters in Poetry, Theology, and Music," a series of April 9-13 events culminating in the composition's premiere.
