[Online] Choral Vespers Rebroadcast
Music for tonight's service focuses on words from the Book of Job, the Old Testament Lesson for the Feast of St. Matthew, which we celebrate today: ‘But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?' We hear two contemporary settings of the antiphon 'O Sapientia' ('O Wisdom') by Alexander Schmitt and Healey Willan. Both Tomás Luis de Victoria's evening hymn 'Te lucis ante terminum' and the Anonymous 16th century setting of Proper Psalm 112 feature a common musical style: the alternation of unison plainsong and polyphonic writing.
