A Conversation on Race Then and Now: A Bridge Panel Conversation

Thirty-one years ago, black male Duke Students were being stopped and harassed on campus. To address the problem, then Black Student Alliance President Maurice "Mo" Green (T '88) and Associated Students of Duke University President Jan Nolting Carter (T '88) gathered students, public safety officers, faculty, and administrators to talk through the issues and concerns. Fast forward to this year, hear Mo and Jan's compelling story and join the conversation, moderated by Duke Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery.

Maurice "Mo" Green is currently the executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, a private, family foundation that has been a catalyst for positive change in North Carolina for 80 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science and economics as well as a law degree from Duke University.

The Rev. Dr. Jan Nolting Carter is currently the transitional pastor and head of staff at Church of the Pilgrims, a Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC. She holds degrees from Duke University (AB), University of Pennsylvania (MSEd), McCormick Theological Seminary (MDiv) and Columbia Theological Seminary (DMin).
