"Building on Catastrophe" with Frank Stasio
The word catastrophe signals a bad end to a sad story. But while those who suffer catastrophic events may never forget the pain, inspired and creative responses to disaster can also lead to renewal and growth. The word has particular meanings in each culture. Yet, the ingenious and often heroic ways in which those cultures survived and thrived may carry a universal message of resilience and hope.
Monday, March 31 at 7:00 pm in Duke Divinity School’s Goodson Chapel, Duke Chapel is sponsoring a panel discussion to explore the experiences of catastrophe and responses to it in both African-American and Jewish histories. NPR host of the State of Things, Frank Stasio, will engage in dialogue with Luke Powery, Dean of Duke Chapel, and Rabbi Raachel Jurovics of Yavneh: a Jewish Renewal Community in Raleigh.
