Ash Wednesday Service
The Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery, Dean, Duke University Chapel
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. It occurs forty days before Easter, not including six Sundays (which are considered feast days), and recalls Jesus's forty days in the wilderness, itself mirroring the Israelites' forty years in the desert. During this services, ministers mark those who attend with ashes as a reminder that "we are dust, and to dust we shall return." The Chapel's Vespers Ensemble will lead the music. Face masks are required inside the Chapel and all Duke buildings. Read more about campus public health measures at https://returnto.duke.edu/public-health-measures/. Paid parking is available in the Bryan Center garage at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking is available in the Bryan Center Surface Lot at the same address. This service will be livestreamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/dukechapel.
