Alleluia! Sing a New Song
Speaker
Vocal Arts Ensemble of Durham
The Vocal Arts Ensemble presents the first concert in Duke Chapel since its reopening after a yearlong closure for repair and restoration. To celebrate the reopening, VAE will sing jubilant songs of praise as well as music that celebrates the joy of singing: two choral settings of the word "Alleluia" (including a recent composition by Eric Whitacre), Dan Forrest's "Canticum Novum" (New Song), Randall Thompson's "Ye Shall Have a Song", and others. Related themes of coming home, arrival at the Promised Land, and the coming of light are also presented in music. The 31 singers of VAE are chosen from among the finest choral singers in the region, and are under the direction of Rodney Wynkoop.
