Adult Forum (Westbrook Building): Changing Trends in Global Christianity

Speaker

Lynn Holmes, Divinity School Intern with the Congregation

According to Philip Jenkins: "We are currently living through one of the transforming moments in the history of religion worldwide...the center of gravity in the Christian world has shifted inexorably away from Europe, southward, to African and Latin America, and eastward, toward Asia. Today, the largest Christian communities on the planet are to be found in those regions." (From The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity) This session will explore the changing demographics in Christianity by reviewing data from the Pew Research Center and the Center for Global Christianity and examine the import of the data for the future of Christianity. With a variety of guest speakers, the Adult Forum offers presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics. The thought-provoking topics include Biblical studies, current social issues, and the work of mission agencies. All presentations are open to the public.
