Dean Powery Discusses the Spirituals for TV Story on Juneteenth

An ABC11 segment on the celebration of Juneteenth features Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery discussing the significance of the spirituals in African American culture, in the church, and around the world.

"In many ways, as Dubois and others say, music is the soul of Black folks," Dean Powery says in the interview.

"It's amazing to me that we have so many of these songs that we can turn to," he says. "The enslaved offer a gift to the world!"
