Duke Chapel and Religious Life at Duke offer undergraduate and graduate students many ways to connect their faith and learning at Duke.
Belong
There are more than twenty campus Religious Life groups, plus three Chapel Affiliate groups, from a wide range of religious traditions that offer worship services and the opportunity to belong to a faith community. Here is a list of Duke’s Religious Life groups.
Worship at Duke Chapel
On Sundays at 11:00 a.m., join us in worship that offers stirring preaching, inspiring sacred music, and faithful prayer. Held amid the beautiful, soaring architecture of the Chapel, this interdenominational Christian service is characterized by vibrant faith, intellectual depth, diverse cultural expressions, and a welcoming community. Serve
Begin the semester addressing food insecurity and waste in our community by participating in the Crop Drop on Saturday, August 26 (sign up here). The Chapel’s community engagement fosters connections with the wider Durham community by partnering with local churches, faith communities, and nonprofits, including the Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope, which is an opportunity to discover how your spiritual journey is connected to the history of Durham. In the summer, the Bridge Internship is an eight-week residency in which students live in community across typical social divides.
Find Sanctuary
Duke Chapel is a sanctuary for all people that is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for meditation, reflection, prayer, contemplation, and simple presence. Take a moment to come inside the big wooden doors! Plus, follow us on Instagram to get updates on when we hold special trips at night to the top of the Chapel tower. And, consider becoming a Duke Chapel Student Ambassador, who welcomes visitors to the Chapel and shares about its rich history.
Care and Support in Your Quad
Duke has several chaplains who are specially trained to offer support and care to students, no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. With these QuadEx Chaplains, you can:
- Connect for a 1:1 conversation
- Schedule an educational program for your quad
- Participate in an interfaith retreat

Connect Faith and Learning
With a mission of “bridging faith and learning,” the Chapel offers a number of programs that support students in deepening their faith and seeking meaning in life, including:
- Chapel Scholars—a program for students to build community across Christian traditions through study, service, and worship
- Graduate and Professional Student Programs—offerings from the Chapel and Congregation at Duke Chapel open to graduate students
- Say the Thing—an initiative to give students an opportunity to wrestle with life's most ancient and persistent questions using innovative technology
- Theology Underground—a series of guided conversations about how culture, identity, and race impact the way we live out our faith and belief
- Text Messages—a Bible study and discussion series exploring topics such as “relationships with parents,” “the church and the legacy of slavery,” and “diving in the deep end of the dating pool.”
Sing and Create
The Chapel’s robust music program includes three different choirs, all of which are open to Duke students. Come to an open rehearsal or schedule an audition. A large and diverse concert series features choral concerts, organ recitals, and guest artists from around the world. All programs are free for Duke students. And, the C. Eric Lincoln Theology & Arts Fellowship provides support for a student to create a sacred art project to be displayed in the Chapel.
