Duke Chapel is closed to the public for weddings, funerals, and other special events that may not be listed on the Chapel’s website calendar. Weddings are often held on Saturdays and some Sundays. Please visit the events calendar before planning your trip.

Tours

On weekends, a guided tour is offered every Sunday after the 11:00 a.m. worship service. No reservations are necessary. To join the tour, please meet the docent near the front steps of the Chapel following the service, at approximately 12:15 p.m. The tours focus on the interior of the Chapel, and usually run for 30 to 45 minutes. Tours do not include access to the Chapel tower, which is unavailable to the public.

Guided tours of the Chapel are also available by special request. Tours cannot be scheduled for Saturdays due to weddings and other special events. To ensure that a docent is available to lead a tour on a weekday, please make a reservation.

Groups may be interested in the regularly offered campus-wide tours through the Admissions Office, which include the Chapel along with other points of interest on campus.

Parking & Directions

Visitors to the Chapel are encouraged to park in the Bryan Center parking garage or pay lot. The cost is $2 per hour except on Sunday mornings, when parking is free until 1:00 p.m. The cost is $5 on a day when the University is hosting a special event.

For some evening and weekend special events, overflow parking is provided in the Biological Sciences parking lot, on the opposite side of Science Drive from the Bryan Center and Chapel. The cost is $2 per hour.

All buses, including mini-buses, are not permitted to park in front of the Chapel. Please make a reservation to arrange for buses to drop-off and pick-up passengers at Duke Chapel. Buses may park in the spaces designated for buses at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens once passengers have been dropped off at the Chapel.

Jobs & Internships

PathWays Summer Interns and Fellows

The PathWays Summer Internship Program is designed for undergraduate students who are committed to the work of discernment, and are interested in exploring careers in faith-based non-profit organizations, churches or parishes. The program is open to all Duke University undergraduates, but special consideration is given to PathWays Chapel Scholars. Learn more about applying for the program.

Chapel Attendants

Duke Chapel offers undergraduate students regular part-time employment as Chapel attendants. Attendants work at the Chapel’s front desk during evenings and weekends, and are responsible for greeting visitors and answering questions about the Chapel. If you are interested in working Monday-Saturday, please contact the Event and Wedding Coordinator. If you are interested in working on Sundays, please contact the Director of Worship.

Worship Assistants

Volunteers are an essential part of worship at Duke Chapel, and a reminder of the vibrancy of the Duke Chapel community. If you would like to serve as an usher, lector or communion server, please contact the Director of Worship.

Worship Intern

Chapel Photographers

Duke Chapel offers two qualified work-study students part-time employment—up to ten hours per week—as Chapel photographers. Chapel photographers are responsible for taking authorized pictures of Chapel events, for use in the Chapel’s print and website mediums. Chapel Communications Aide

Duke Chapel offers qualified work-study students just under twenty hours per week employment as a Chapel Communications Aide. For more information, please contact the Special Assistant for Communications.

Media Ministry Aide

Duke Chapel offers qualified work-study students ten hours per week employment as a Media Ministry Aide to help with media archiving and closed captioning. For more information, please contact the Special Assistant for Communications.
